Ecological and Habitat Surveys

Ever increasing environmental awareness has inevitably led to more stringent controls by planning authorities in order to buffer the effects of potential environmentally damaging operations and developments.

Increasingly, planning departments are including environmental provisos in planning permissions. At Peak we can offer advise in conservation ecology and undertake any necessary remedial work. Peak can also carry out Environmental Impact Assessments prior to a proposed development taking place.

Full habitat and ecological surveys, suitably tailored to your site’s individual needs, can be completed to assess the impact of proposed developments. Peak can then advise how this can be adopted into any development plans to ensure that our client’s can get the maximum use out of their land, while still allowing suitable conservation of habitat to satisfy the planning authority.

On these cases Peak will work in full consultation with the planning authorities to ensure that both they and our client are fully satisfied with the progress of the development.

Environmental Impact Studies and Planning Support

The environmental implications of development planning is becoming an increasingly important aspect of any planning application. At Peak Associates we have the relevant expertise to fully advise on evidence that may be required in a planning application to ensure that environmental planning guidance is followed.

Peak will also complete an Environmental Impact Study, tailored specifically to your site. This will allow us to identify the main risks to the environment from the proposed development. From this we can provide advice and recommendations on how to reduce this impact or mitigate the loss of habitat or natural environment.

Peak can assist in this with the design of waste management plans, transport plans, environmental impact studies and completion of supporting design & access statements to meet local and national Planning Policy Guidelines. Peak can then complete all necessary paperwork to move your application forwards.

By working in full consultation with you and the local authorities Peak can ensure that you are able to make the maximum use of your site while satisfying the planning authorities that the potential environmental impact is minimised or eliminated.

Environmental Management Systems (Design and Implementation)

Environmental Management within industry is now considered to be an essential part of good management practice. Organisations are often put under pressure by customers to supply evidence of environmental management or it is a requirement of their PPC Permit from the Environment Agency or Local Authority.

According to the Environment Agency, UK businesses spend, on average, 1% of their turnover on Environmental Management, this is often on reactive measures that do not generate revenue or reduce costs. Cost savings are achievable through low cost measures such as waste minimization, pollution prevention (legal compliance) and resource and energy efficiency.

Peak Associates offer a flexible working approach towards environmental management, allowing organisations to set the level of service required. We will also offer companies a free site visit to discuss your organisations requirements in this area.

  Environmental Audits

Spillages and accidental releases are by far the most common cause of pollution incidents that lead to prosecution by environmental regulators. All too often these accidents could have been prevented.

Studies involve a thorough look at your site with the aim of identifying weaknesses in your storage handling and production areas. The process starts with a review of how environmentally hazardous materials are handled on site, how they are stored and what quantities are involved.

Any risks are then quantified in relation to their possible effects on local watercourse and groundwater. Previous incidents are also taken into account of at this stage.

Once this process is complete it is possible to advise on the improvements needed and the most cost-effective way of providing the containment or treatment identified as necessary.

The package is often supported by our Emergency & Incident Planning Service.
