Representations to Labour and Lib Dem MPs on Environmental Policy
Much of our work is in areas where legislation and regulation is
continuing to develop and in several cases is at the forefront of UK
environmental policy, recently Mike Matthews
has met with Ed Milliband (when climate change secretary) and Ed Balls during
the Labour leadership campaign in order to discuss how to grow the UK's
green economy. Mike has also worked with Tim Farron, a former spokesperson for the Environment,
Food and Rural Affairs and now Lib Dem MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, with
regards to a number of local environmental issues including the floods which
occurred in the Cockermouth area of Cumbria.
Mike Matthews, one of the
top 100 donors, has been offered, and accepted, a post as Visiting
Teaching Fellow at the University of Lancaster. In addition to
this, the University has also provided Mike with an increased office
space, where he is planning to further develop the services provided by
Peak Associates and further research environmental issues through the
University.
Mike Matthews is also a board member of
the Lancaster Environment Centre which is part of Lancaster University. In addition
to taking occassional tutorial groups, Mike has recently been asked to become a teaching
fellow at the University. Developing the UK's exports in green economy also led to Mike Matthews and Jill Jones, attended the Eco-Expo Asia
event in 2009 with Lancaster's team in Hong Kong to meet with key companies
and government representatives to establish and improve
understanding of good environmental practice. |
